That was an interesting article to read and I was impressed by Riche’s overview, (but also jelous that he was at the Games). As for Crossfit becoming commercialized; I think the pros outweigh the cons.
As long as Crossfit can keep to it’s mission of integrating routines to create stronger, fitter individuals, then I think it’s all good. We’ve seen over the years just how big Crossfit has grown and how wide it’s methodology has spread, thus creating a ton of interest in a person’s health and wellness. You see that Riche notes how in awe he was at watching these seemingly “normal looking” folk accomplish mind blowing tasks in the name of competition. Just take a look at how other sports have done over the years (MMA, Triathlons) with being televised. I think the growth has skyrocketed because of it.
Right now, the only potential downside I see is perhaps the evocation of Crossfit’s use for vanity, more than fitness. I would hope that corporate sponsorship wouldn’t market Crossfit as just a program that’ll get you that beach body or rippling six pack! However; we’ve all seen and know what the overall goal of Crossfit is and hopefully, any sort of commericialization can recognize that sort of commitment and passion. We push ourselves to the max every day, increasing awareness of what we are capable of as human beings and hopefully that continues to translate positively on our community. Not sure if anyone else agrees, but I am certainly anxious to see what happens!

3:30 for ground to shoulder w/ 130# stone…stone felt light today. Pulled straight from the floor to shoulder, didn’t bother lapping stone.
As for the commercialization of CrossFit, I believe that CrossFit will self regulate. CrossFit is very good at weeding out assholes and people who are unmotivated. As long as there is a supportive community within CrossFit Boxes, I’m not worried. If CrossFit ever loses its sense of community, then I think we’re in trouble.
I’m excited about the future of CrossFit and where this fitness revolution and sport will take us.

Can’t wait to read the articles about the future of crossfit.

5:42 w/ 95# stone
The attention CrossFit is getting is great and I think it’s definitely a sport that will self-regulate. If you don’t have the right mentality to be a part of the community you won’t stick with it. The new motto can be: CrossFit – it’s not for douche bags.

Yeah, I totally agree with you guys. Some will stay motivated and some will swing by and get their ass kicked by one of our wods and never come back.

5:09 with the 95 lb stone. Very slow with the sled pull, but claim extra credit for 6 pulls.
I have not read the article yet, but all indications without reading seem positive and the future looks bright for Crossfit and those who participate.
Sara, you have a way with words, you go girl!
